Necklace of Fireballs question Empty Necklace of Fireballs question

I located the entry on Necklace of Fireballs, as we were wondering what my debt is to the party fund, I'm curiouse what type it is? I have 7 damage types, at 150gp for each die of damage.  Also, what do I roll to hit?

Necklace of Fireballs
This device appears to be nothing but beads on a string, sometimes with the ends tied together to form a necklace. (It does not count as an item worn around the neck for the purpose of determining which of a character’s worn magic items is effective.) If a character holds it, however, all can see the strand as it really is—a golden chain from which hang a number of golden spheres. The spheres are detachable by the wearer (and only by the wearer), who can easily hurl one of them up to 70 feet. When a sphere arrives at the end of its trajectory, it detonates as a fireball spell (Reflex DC 14 half).
Spheres come in different strengths, ranging from those that deal 2d6 points of fire damage to those that deal 10d6. The market price of a sphere is 150 gp for each die of damage it deals.
Each necklace of fireballs contains a combination of spheres of various strengths. Some traditional combinations, designated types I through VII, are detailed below.

[th]Necklace[/th][th]10d6[/th][th]9d6[/th][th]8d6[/th][th]7d6[/th][th]6d6[/th][th]5d6[/th][th]4d6[/th][th]3d6[/th][th]2d6[/th][th]Market Price[/th]
Type I121,650 gp
Type II1222,700 gp
Type III1244,350 gp
Type IV12245,400 gp
Type V12225,850 gp
Type VI12248,100 gp
Type VII122228,700 gp

If the necklace is being worn or carried by a character who fails her saving throw against a magical fire attack, the item must make a saving throw as well (with a save bonus of +7). If the necklace fails to save, all its remaining spheres detonate simultaneously, often with regrettable consequences for the wearer.
Moderate evocation; CL 10th; Craft Wondrous Item, fireball.

Here the text from the current Dungeon Master's Guide:

NECKLACE OF FIREBALLS
Wondrous item, rare
This necklace has ld6 + 3 beads hanging from it. You can use an action to detach a bead and throw it up to 6 feet away. When it reaches the end of its trajectory, the bead detonates as a 3rd-level fireball spell (save DC 15 You can hurl multiple beads, or even the whole necklace, as one action. When you do so, increase the level of the fireball by 1 for each bead beyond the first.

The save used is Dexterity, and Matt stated that there are 7 gem/beads.

That link you provided is for the d20 (3.5 edition).

Necklace of Fireballs question Empty Re: Necklace of Fireballs question

Here is the base info for Fireball, base spell level 3:

"A bright streak flashes from your pointing finger to a point you choose within range and then blossoms with a low roar into an explosion of flame. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make a Dexterity saving throw. A target takes 8d6 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The fire spreads around corners. It ignites flammable objects in the area that aren't being worn or carried."

According to the posted text about the necklace, you can only throw the beads 6 feet so I strongly advise caution. You can throw more beads to raise the level of the fireball (2 beads makes it 4th, 3 5th, etc) which adds 1d6 per level. Matt said there are a total of 7 beads.

As for value...it's complicated. Since there isn't a Magic Item Mart(c) trying to price something like this is going to involve lots of face-to-face discussion about rarity, relative value, practical usage vs cost, etc. Low-ball? The cost or value of seven 3rd level spell scrolls a la the DMG. High-ball? Up to the maximum "value" listed for 'rare' items, also in the DMG.

The posted range is a typo. It actually can be thrown 60 ft, not 6, which makes it a bit safer for everyone.
